Morris Alexander Wishnia

Nutrition Intern

Morris is a medical doctor with over a decade of experience in capacity-building and health education, primarily focusing on Latinx populations and rural communities throughout Latin America. After joining the Peace Corps in 2016, he found his passion for nutrition and lifestyle medicine.

Through working in the community, Morris learned that food choice is often influenced by local culture and tradition. His approach involves creating culturally-sensitive interventions to increase adherence to dietary changes. In many of the remote areas that he has served, access to consistent healthcare is limited, and many rely on local foods and herbal remedies that are readily available. Not only have these interventions proven to be effective but are sustainable. Believing that food is medicine, Morris’s dietary philosophy is to blend evidence-based nutritional guidance with local flavors and healing foods to design community-based interventions that address the needs of those being served.

Morris is a second-generation Cuban-American who was raised in Miami, Florida. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Hebrew. He enjoys water sports, boxing, travel, culture, and food.
